Frequently asked questions
Tallypool FAQ
Everything you need to know about shared budgeting with Tallypool - how sharing works, how splits and repayments are tracked, how Tallypool keeps your financial data encrypted, and how to manage your account.
Is Tallypool free to use?
- Yes. Tallypool is completely free, end to end - there are no ads, no fees, no subscriptions, and no paid tiers. You can create shared budgets, invite members, and track spending together without ever paying anything. Just grab the app from the App Store or Google Play and sign up.
How does sharing a budget work?
- You create a budget, then invite people by sharing an app link or invite code with them. Everyone who joins becomes a member and can see that budget's categories, transactions, and balances. Members can add income and expenses, and those updates are there for the whole group the next time they open the app - so a household, trip, or team stays on the same page. You control who you invite, and data is only shared with the members of a budget you add.
How are repayments and splits tracked?
- When you record an expense, you can note who paid and split the cost between members. Tallypool keeps running balances so you can see exactly who owes whom at a glance, without the awkward mental math. These figures are there to help you organize settling up - Tallypool is a record-keeping tool and doesn't move money itself, so members settle balances between themselves outside the app.
Is my financial data secure and encrypted?
- Yes. Sensitive fields - including your email, display name, account nicknames, and transaction descriptions - are encrypted at rest before they reach Tallypool's database (not just disk-level). Passwords are securely hashed, every request travels over an encrypted connection, and Tallypool never sells your data. Read the full details in Tallypool's Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my account and data?
- Open the app, go to Settings, and choose Delete account. This permanently removes your account and personal data from Tallypool's active systems. If you can no longer sign in, you can request deletion by email instead. See Tallypool's account & data deletion guide for the full steps and exactly what is removed versus retained.
Which platforms does Tallypool support?
- Tallypool is a mobile app available for iOS and Android. Your budgets sync across your devices, so you and the people you share with can track spending from wherever you are. Download it from the App Store or Google Play.
